Karwar : Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Ishwar Kumar Kandoo said that Uttara Kannada district contains the highest forest area in the state, all the zonal forest officers of the regional and social forest department of the district should take up the natural resource based works on priority under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA programmes and achieve the set target by creating 338105 man days fixed by the Rural Development Commission and he gave instructions in this regard.
He was speaking during a NREGA Progress Review meeting with all Zonal Forest Officers of the district at Keswan Hall of the Zilla Panchayat here on Friday.
There is a high demand for natural resource based works in the district. Due to that reason, every year the target set by the commission is being achieved in the district, but the progress in the current year is little slow. Therefore, all the Zonal Forest Officers of the district should coordinate with the Taluka Panchayat Executive Officers, NREGA Assistant Director and Gram Panchayat Development Officers to take up the good work required by the people and achieve the target set zone wise. In addition, the list of all the works that can be taken up can be submitted to the district, taluk and village panchayats and approval can be obtained, he said.
Karim Asadi, the project director of the Zilla Panchayat, who has taken responsibility for the NREGA project requested all the Zonal Forest Officers of the district to take great interest and carry out works like trenches, Farm Ponds, Nursery Development, Afforestation, Lakes development, Soil and Moisture conservation etc.
Earlier, all the Zonal Forest Officers were briefed in detail about the NREGA project through “Orientation”.
