455 Government Lakes encroached in Uttara Kannada District

Karwar : In Uttara Kannada district there were 2118 Lakes out of which survey has been conducted in area surrounding 2071 lakes and found that 455 lakes have been encroached by individuals or land Mafias for constructing their own houses or apartments for commercial purpose.
Deputy Commissioner Gangubai Mankar informed during a Press Meet at the DC’s office recently.
Revenue department sources said that the survey of 47 lakes are yet to be conduced in Uttara Kannada. The encroachments will be cleared if the survey of these tanks are done. Now according to sources the lakes that are need to be cleard – In Sirsi 98 lakes, in Siddapur 30 lakes, in Mundgod 25 lakes, in Yellapur 22 lakes, and in Haliyal 02 lakes.
The public of Uttara Kannada district are appreciating the Deputy Commissioner Gangubai Mankar for her special concern for conserving the natural resources.
