Karwar CMC fails to reach an amicable settlement with shop keepers

Shopkeepers allege forceful demolition

Karwar : The shopkeepers of Gandhi Market here allege that inspite of Court Stay the CMC authorities are demolishing their shops.
The young shopkeeper Shridhar Wadkar who is running his ancestral Kirana Shop shared his agony with ‘Karwar Mirror’.
He said CMC Commissioner never bothered to take them into confidence.

We had asked the Commissioner to give in writing that after construction of the new Complex they will be given a shop in the same place where their ancestors were doing their business.
CMC Commissioner R P Naik informed that a resolution has been passed in General Body of the Council to demolish the Gandhi Market and construct a New Complex. He further informed that a list of shopkeepers who are losing their shops has been displayed on the CMC Notice Board and these shopkeepers will be given a shop in the Complex. The CMC has also submitted an ‘Undertaking’ in that regard, R P Naik added.

Karwar : The Karwar CMC Commissioner R P Naik provided all the documents related to the ‘Gandhi Market’ domolition and reconstuction which is in jeopardy for the benefit of the beneficiaries and public.
The matter of demolition of old Gandhi Market which was constructed in the year 1956, was brought for discussion in CMC General Body on 17th November 2022 and a Resolution has been passed forming all the modalities and reliefs for the existing tenants. Accordingly, a list of 113 Tenants has been prepared and kept in the Municipal office for use of public. Another list of 52 tenants of Fish Market also been prepared and kept in the office.
As per the resolution, the new Gandhi Market complex will come up in five floors (1+4) and the reallotment of shops will be made as per the Guidelines of the State Government’s circular No.NAE/301/GEL/2017 dated 19th July 2019. As per this GO all the existing tenants should be provided with a shop space minimum of 10 sq. ft. to 200 sq.ft. In this regard Commissioner clarified that the existing tenants will be given shops at the same place where they are running their business at present.
It was also informed that if any tenants require Agreement from CMC, they may approach for the same.
