Karwar : Security has been beefed up at Karnataka – Goa border check post at Majali near here ahead of Karnataka Assembly Polls which is scheduled on May 10th.
According to the Disrict Administration sources 18 Flying Squads, 25 Static Surveilance Teams and 12 Excise Teams have been deployed in Uttara Kannada District. In addition to these teams Police department have also beefed up its vigil 24×7 in the District, sources said.
As on Saturday, April 8, the following amount of cash has been seized by the squads and Police vigil teams.
Flying Squads seized cash of Rs.2,00,000/-, Static Squads siezed cash Rs.22,57,510/- out of which Rs.3,40,000/- has been released after verification. The Police Squads have
seized cash amounting to Rs.46,74,681/-. 3394.118 liters of Liquor valued at Rs.12,50,512/-. 2.425 Kg. of Drugs, Narcotics etc., valued at Rs.48,500/-.
In addition 5- Two wheelers, 3-Four wheelers, 1-Lorry, 70-LPG Gas Stoves, 1-Boat, 1-Boat Engine, 1-Nokia Mobile and 200 Garments, total amounting to
Rs.51,21,547/-. In all 10 FIRs have been registered for Excise law violations, sources said.
Uttara Kannada District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Prabhuling Kavalikatti has promulgated following orders of preventive measures to ensure free and fair elections, viz; Deposit of Arms in respective police stations, Prohibitory Orders under section144 in and around 200 mtrs. of the Office of all 6 Returning Officers, Pre-polling, Polling, Pre-counting and Counting days to be declared as “DRY DAY” and Local Holiday to be declared on the day of Polling.
The DC directed the owners of malls, halls, auditoriums and theatres not to allow conduct of programmes of political parties without prior permission from the district election office.
The Election Commission has developed Suvidha and C-Vigil software to avoid unnecessary running for the permissions to be obtained during elections and prevent illegal cases. Public and political parties can take advantage of it, DC said.
Since the political parties will be active in wooing voters by holding campaigns and meetings, it was advised to prepare the plan of their organizing campaigns, processions, meetings and take the permission of the Election Commission. It is also mandatory for political parties and those who want to contest as independent candidates to take prior permission for holding public events, DC added.
