Raise awareness against tobacco consumption and its effects – DC Prabhuling Kavalikatti

Karwar : Under National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) the District Level Coordination Committee meeting has been organized under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner Prabhuling Kavalikatti at the court hall of the DC’s office here on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion Kavalikatti said that since tobacco consumption is the first step towards starting bad habits, more awareness should be created about the effects of tobacco consumption.
DC further said that children are getting addicted to cigarettes and chewing tobacco first and then they are addicted to many other bad habits, so if the sale of tobacco is controlled, then those who become victims of bad habits can be prevented.
Later, Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary Renuka D Raikar said that if tobacco users are fined Rs.100 or Rs.200, they will pay the fine and consume and thereby the evil can not be stopped. Instead she advised to monitor the sale of tobacco in shops and take disciplinary action against the sellers and suppliers of tobacco. She further said that special teams should be formed and raids should be conducted on tobacco shops.
Since parents chew tobacco in front of their children in rural areas, children also develop bad habits, so more awareness should be created in rural areas about the effects of tobacco consumption, Renuka added.
Probationary IAS officer Jubin Mohapatra, DHO Annapurna Vastrad and officials of various departments at the district level were present in the meeting.
