Civil Contractors’ Bills will be cleared from Taxes collected from citizens – DC Gangubai Mankar

Karwar : Tax collection targets have been fixed to the individual collectors of Karwar City Municipality and from the tax collections, the pending bills of Civil Contractors will be paid.
The Deputy Commissiner Gangubai Mankar said in the press conference held at the Meeeting Hall of DC’s office here on Thursday.
DC further said that during the recent meeting held with the civil contractors in the capacity of the Administrator of CMC Karwar “ I found that there are as many as 136 works amounting to Rs.7.67 Cr.

which have been given orally without funds and such works have been stopped. For the ongoing 235 works amounting to Rs.10.87 Cr. the bills will be cleared as per the priority. Since there is only an amount of Rs.24 lakhs is available with CMC, the payment will be made in phased manner after collecting taxes from various sources viz; Property Tax, Hotels, Factories and other rich sources”.
The Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006: Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, action has been initiated to book the persons and business establishments who violate this Act. In every district, two officers have been posted, but in Uttara Kannada district only one officer has been posted who is stationed at Sirsi. Efforts are being made to post one more officer at the District headquarters, Karwar, DC added.
This Act is to consolidate the laws relating to food and to establish the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import, to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
