Indian Coast Guard IG Manoj Vasant Baadkar retires on 30th September, prefers to become a social worker

Karwar : Indian Coast Guard IG Manoj Vasant Baadkar is retiring on 30th September this year.
Recently during a ‘Meet the Press’ programme on the Board Coast Guard Ship, reporters asked him that since he was born and brought up in Karwar, what are his plans after retirement. They also asked him that his friends want him to enter politics.
For this question, Baadkar said that he prefers to become a social worker and he has lot of plans for development of Karwar, provide ‘Carrier Guidance’ to the youths and try to provide medical fecilities with the help of like minded Philanthropists of Karwar. He also said that he wants to wrok in the field of Sports.
Inspector General Manoj Vasant Baadkar joined the Indian Coast Guard Service on 12 Jan 1987. In his illustrious career spanning over 36 years, the Flag Officer has held several key appointments afloat and ashore and has a proven track record of outstanding and meritorious performance in all of his assignments. Notable appointments held among them, are Command of Coast Guard Ships Priya Darshini and Ahalyabai. He has been the commissioning Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Ship Samudra Prahari, the first specialized Pollution control ship in South East Asia. He has headed Coast Guard for the two Maritime states, Karnataka and Goa.
The Flag officer has also held various appointments viz, command of Coast Guard Station Vadinar, Command Operations Officer at Joint Services Andaman & Nicobar command during the Tsunami, Chief Staff Officer Fisheries & Environment Western Region and Chief Staff Officer Operations of the Coast Guard Western Region. He has also held the post of the Chief of Staff, of the Coast Guard Western Region. On elevation to the flag rank, he was appointed as the Deputy Director General and the Chairman CGSB, thereafter the Chief of Staff Headquarters, Coast Guard Eastern Seaboard at Visakhapatnam and prior assuming present assignment he was the Chief of Staff Headquarters, Coast Guard Western Seaboard at Mumbai.
The Flag officer is a recipient of Tatrakshak Medal (meritorious service). He has completed IMC Course from United Kingdom. He is also a qualified Interviewing Officer. The officer has been earlier on the Board of Trustees of 04 major ports of the country, New Mangalore Port Trust, Mumbai Port Trust, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust and Mormugao Port Trust. He is an Alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad.
He is a native of Karwar and married to Mrs. Aruni Baadkar and has a son Rohan.
