Rural Youths carrying forward their Traditional Art “Hagarana”

Karwar/Devalmakki – by Prajwal Shet : The annual Jatra Mahotsav of Shree Mahadeva Deva of Nage village, of Devalmakki Gram Panchayat near Karwar has been celebrated with enthusiasm and devotion on Friday. Thousands of people visited the village to witness the annual festival and the Rural Traditional Art forms and tableaux ‘Hagarana’ of the Halakki Okkaligas.
The rural youths depicted wild animals, Eagle, flying dinosaurs wild beasts through ‘Tableaux’. The enthusiasm of children dressed up in costumes, which gave a good message to the society and represented the culture, especially the scene of farmers harvesting paddy with agricultural appliances was appreciated.

On this festive occasion of the fair, a cultural dance program was performed by youths and a traditional Dance-Drama form Yakshagana was performed by the local Yakshagana artists. The plot of the Yakshagana named ‘Indra Pushpa’ was written by Pritam Naik of Harwada village near Ankola. Ramesh Gowda of nearby Kove village performed as Bhagavata of the Yakshagana.
Prajwal Baburay Shet an anthusiastic local youth of Devalmakki who is studying Masters in Dharwad visits these villages every year to help the local youths for preparing ‘tableaux’ to promote folk art and culture of local Halakki Okkaligas. Apart from this Prajwal fights for providing the basic amenities like roads, bridges, bus facilities etc.
