Karwar : “Rotary Organisation is running on the strong ideals of ”Service Above Self”, “Friendship and Fellowship” and “Trustworthiness” said the District Governor of Rotary International District 3170, Rotarian Venkatesh (Baban) Deshpande.
He was addressing the members of Rotary Club of Karwar and public on his official visit to the Club here on Tuesday.
Deshpande further said that Rotary is a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders. Members of Rotary clubs, known as Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
There are over 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. As signified by the motto Service Above Self, Rotary’s main objective is service – in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world, he added.
Speaking on Eradication of Polio, Deshpande said that Rotary International and UNICEF work together as leading partners of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative to protect every child against polio. In 1985, Rotary launched its PolioPlus programme. Rotary has contributed more than $2 billion and countless volunteer hours to immunize more than 3 billion children in 122 countries, Deshpande added.
Two Women Entrepreneurs Seeya Sandesh Govekar, owner of local Mahalakshmi Emission Testing Center, Gangubai Mahabaleshwar Naik, Vermicompost and Desi cow dung manure maker of Hosali village and a fuel station attendant working at local Amar Fuels And Services, Vinita Mhalsekar have been felicitated on the occasion.
Three new members Deepak Naik, Manager, IndusInd Bank, Rajesh Shetti, Rice Merchant and Junaid Sayyed have been inducted as new members.
The Assistant Governor Rotarian Prakash Shetty spoke on the occasion.
The President of the Club Rotarian Raghavendra Prabhu welcomed. Secretary Gurudatta Bant proposed vote of thanks and Rotarian Shailesh Haldipur compered the programme. All the members of the club, members of Innerwheel club, family members and public participated in the programme.
