Karwar : Jana Shakti Vedike and like-minded organizations have started a massive public awareness walk from Karwar to Ankola on Tuesday against corruption, price rise, unemployment and privatisation.
The Chief Monk of Ramakrishna Ashram Swami Bhaveshananda garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Municipal Garden, Karwar and blessed the ‘padayatris’ for their march. The march started from opposite the Mahatma Gandhi statue en route to National Highway Binaga, Arga, Amadalli, Chendia and took rest at Aversa village near Ankola.
Madhav Nayak, president of Jana Shakti Vedike, said that today corruption is rampant in all sectors in the state of Karnataka and in the Karwar-Ankola constituency the 40% Commission has reached its peak therefore it has become an inevitable situation to take the issue to the streets. Through this march we are trying to create an awareness which will reach the youths and public to think before casting their votes to elect a honest representatives which will end corruption in the near future. He said though it is not possible to eradicate corruption completely, the struggle is being done to prevent it.
On Wednesday the padayatra has started at at 8.30 am from Aversa in the and reached Ankola Shree Shantadurga temple at 3 pm in the evening via Dandebaga, Bogrigadde, Belekeri, Bavikeri, Badageri, Keni.
Later a procession has been taken out from Shree Shantadurga Temple and the protesters marched upto Satyagraha Smaraka Bhavan where the former Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde addressed the public.
The Working President of Karntaka State Civil Contractors’ Association R Manjunath speaking on the occasion said that the “40% Commission Scam” was first brought to light in Karwar by Madhav Nayak, President of Karwar Taluka Registered Civil Contractors Association, which has become a national issue now.
Senior litterateurs Prof. R G Gundi and Shantaram Nayak Hichkad spoke on the occasion.
President of Janashakti Vedike Madhav Nayak welcomed and Secretary Rama Naik compered the programme.
