Karnataka elections to be held on May 10, Results to be announced on May 13

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Wednesday announced that Karnataka Assembly polls will be held on May 10 and results will be announced three days later on May 13.
The term of the 221-member Karnataka Assembly will end on May 24. In the 224 Assembly constituencies, 36 are reserved for the Scheduled Castes and 15 for Scheduled Tribes.
“The Model Code of Conduct comes into force starting from Wednesday,” said Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar during a press conference to announce the poll schedule for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections.
The Model Code of Conduct for guidance of political parties and candidates is a set of norms which has been evolved with the consensus of political parties who have consented to abide by the principles embodied in the said code and also binds them to respect and observe it in its letter and spirit, the CEC said.

During the press conference, he said “First-time voters have increased from 2018-19 by 9.17 lakhs in Karnataka. All young voters who are turning 18 years of age by April 1, will be able to vote “
He said that for the first time voting from home facility will be available in Karnataka for people above the age of 80 years and for persons with disabilities. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said 1,320 polling stations will be managed by women officers. There are a total of 58,282 polling stations.

The salient features of the Model Code of Conduct laid down in the Electgion Commission Website as to how the political parties, contesting candidates and party(s) in power should conduct themselves during the process of elections i.e. on their general conduct during electioneering, holding meetings and processions, poll day activities and functioning of the party in power etc.
Schedule for Karnataka Assemble elections:
Date of issuing gazette notification: April 30, Date of making nominations: April 20, Date of scrutiny of nominations: April 23, Last date for withdrawal of nominations: April 24, Date of poll: May 10, Date of counting: May 13.

The tenure of the 224-seat Karnataka Assembly will end on May 24. Of the 224 Assembly constituencies, 36 are reserved for the Scheduled Castes and 15 for Scheduled Tribes.
Photo Electoral Rolls and Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC)-
Photo Electoral Rolls will be used during the General Election of Karnataka. EPIC is one of the documents for establishing the identity of elector at the time of voting. All out efforts are being made to ensure 100% delivery of EPIC to all newly registered electors before the last date of filing nomination.
Identification of Voters at Polling Stations :
For identification of voters at Polling Station, the Voter shall present his EPIC or any of the following identification documents approved by the Commission:
i. Aadhaar Card, ii. MNREGA Job Card, iii. Passbooks with photograph issued by Bank/Post Office, iv.Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour, v. Driving License, vi.PAN Card,
vii. Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR, viii. Indian Passport, ix. Pension document with photograph, x.Service Identity Cards with photograph issued to employees by Central/State Govt./PSUs/Public Limited Companies, and xi. Official identity cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs and xii. Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card, M/o Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.
Voter Guide:
In these elections, a Voter Guide (in Hindi/English/Local Language) shall be provided to every elector’s household ahead of elections, giving them information about the date and time of polls, contact details of the BLOs, important websites, helpline numbers, documents required for identification at the polling station besides other important information.
