Karwar : “Love for Home Land and Love for Nature made me a successful entrepreneur and my Business World recognises me” Ganesh Ramakrishna Nevarekar says with full satisfaction.
Ganesh Nevrekar a Law graduate and a Master of Business Administration from Pune wanted to start some business in his home land. His father Sri. Ramakrishna Nevrekar’s intetion was to assist him in his Hard wear business. But, his mind always pulled him towards nature.
In the year 2000 when he was pursuing MBA his Professor Yogesh Godbole kindled a spark in him, Ganesh recollects. That was of “Medicinal Plants cultivation and Herbal Extraction”. Ganesh says the Herbal extraction was catching the market at that time.
Ganesh returned back to Karwar and purchased some land at Bargal near Karwar and started cultivation of Medicinal Plants and Herbal extraction and Research Center “Amrita Herbal”.
In initial stages there were lot of uncertainties in the business. But, his determination gave fruits he recollects.
Ganesh has undertaken a Project of saving critically endangered and clinically proven forest Medicinal Plants which are on extinction viz; Mappia foetida (Anti Cancerous) and Salacia reticulata (Anti Diabetic). Under this project a Group of Young Farmers purchased 350 Acres of land and these palnts are being cultivated.
Ganesh always remembers his mentors, Dr. Datta Phayde a Veterinary Doctor who guided him in initial stages and then Dr. Jayakar Bhandari – Professor of Botany and Professor Shivanand Bhat who guided him in identifying the medicinal palnts which are on extinction.
Tips for Youths:
Younger generation should love nature.
They should redevelop the “Sacred Groves” OR “Devara Kadu” (in Kannada) near their villages which they existed earlier but due to deforestation they have been destroyed.
Young Farmer Groups from our North Eastern states viz., Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Sikkim visit his Plantation for study.
There is lot of support from Forest Department, Horticulture Department and College of Forestry, Sirsi for development Nursery, Ganesh Says.
Oil Extractions:
1.Patchouli, 2 Cardamum, 3. Vetiver, 4. Citronella, 5. Lemongrass, 6.Nagarmotha and several other products have lot of demand in the global market.
In recent days many large companies viz; Dabur Pharma, Sami Labs, S M Herbals and Merico Industries are placing orders for his products.
Now there are lot of opportunities for Online Marketing for these products. Younger generation can make use of it. Ganesh says now 10 ml of Lemon Grass Oil costs Rs.250/- for which there is lot of demand in Online Market.
“Government is supporting this activity by way of granting subsidies. It is an opportunity for the younger generation to enter in this field for which I will guide and give all the Business tips to prosper” Ganesh says.

Ganesh Nevrekar has been awarded as “Krishi Bheema” by Pahare Vedike, an organisation which creates awareness on cleanliness, environment, agriculture and water management, during their Environmental Program at Ankola. A Senior RSS functionary Dr Prabhakar Bhat, Kalladka felicitated him on that occasion.
“That felicitation was a motivational force for me in cultivation of Medicinal Plants and agriculture in general. Though I am a consultant in Herbal Extracts and Medicinal Plants cultivation, I am not charging any money for this service” says Ganesh.
