Karwar : Senior Civil Judge and Members Secretary of District Legal Services Authority T Govindayya while speaking on the occasion said that the main purpose of celebrating International Womens Day is to bring to focus the women’s rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence against women. He further said that women in rural areas also should be educated about their rights. Women should be made not only economically strong but their Mental self-esteem must be met. Those who give respect to women they are the real educated persons, he added.
A program was organized at “Stree Shakti Bhavan” to celebrate Internatinal Women’s Day under the joint auspices of ZP, District Legal Services Authority, Women and Child Development Department.
ZP President Jayashree Moger speaking on the occasion said that Government has implemented various welfare schemes for women which have to be availed by the individual women.
“Matravandana”, “Matushree”, “Bhagyalakshmi”, “Poshana Abhiyan” are some of the programmes, she added.
Gender inequality should be eradicated in our society. Violence on women should be stopped. Violence against women is a social, economic, developmental, legal, educational, human rights, and health (physical and mental) issue therefore every person in the society should think very seriously about this issue, she added.
ZP CEO Priyanga M performed Baby shower rituals to two pregnant women on the occasion. Advocate Varada Nayak gave a talk on “Important Constitutional And Legal Provisions For Women In India – Woman’s Rights”. ZP Education and Health Standing Committee Chairperson Chaitra Kotharkar, Canara Bank Chief Manager Laxmi Ramanathan, Deputy Director for Women & Child Welfare G Padmavati were present.Child Development Planning Officer Sonal Aigal Welcomed the gathering. Anganwadi Workers actively participated in the programme.
