Urging all states and Union territories to take quick and decisive steps against the spread of Covid-19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the second wave of Corona has to be stopped immediately.

Raising concern over the rise of novel coronavirus cases in a few states in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked Karnataka to focus on Bengaluru, Kalaburagi and Bidar in view of the rising Coronavirus cases in these regions, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said on Wednesday.

He, however, said there was no need to panic as the cases were well under control.
Quoting the Prime Minister, Yediyurappa said there was adequate vaccines.
He added that coronavirus can only be controlled but cannot be wiped out completely.
Ruling out any curfew or night ban, the Chief Minister appealed to the people to observe the COVID guidelines and use masks and maintain social distancing.
He also asked people to be extremely careful during congregation within four walls.

However, there will not be any restrictions on public gathering during the bypolls to Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency and Maski and Basavakalyan assembly segments.
According to the Chief Minister, Union Home Minister Amit Shah appreciated Karnataka for conducting over 93 per cent RT-PCR tests.
The Prime Minister insisted that vaccines should be utilised optimally with less wastage.
Yediyurappa apprised Modi of the state government target’s of vaccinating three lakh people everyday and its plan to take up the drive at old age homes and mega residential complexes.
Out of 2,042 centres selected for carrying out the vaccination drive, 1,439 are yet to resume their task, the chief minister said.
Meanwhile, Karnataka has reported over 1,100 new COVID-19 cases and six related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 9,62,339 and the death toll to 12,403, the Health department said on Tuesday.

The CM also expressed concern over the rising number of cases in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh saying the test positivity rate in these two states is very high and the number of cases also increasing.
“We will have to immediately stop the emerging second wave of Corona and for this, we will have to take quick and decisive steps,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi in his video conference with the CMs further said that such an increase is being seen in many districts that had protected themselves so far and were kind of safe-zones.

The PM also expressed concern over low testing in some areas only.
“Why is there less vaccination in these areas? I think it’s a time of test for good governance. Our confidence should not turn into overconfidence. Our success should not turn into negligence,” he said.
PM Modi’s last interaction with CMs was in January 2021, just before the vaccines were rolled out. At that time, he had announced that the Centre will bear all expenses of vaccinating nearly three crore healthcare and frontline workers during the first round of inoculation.
He had also suggested that public representatives, such as politicians, should not partake in the initial exercise.
“It has now become necessary for us to become pro-active. The option of making micro-containment zones wherever necessary, we should not bring leniency,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.
