World Water Day observed at CMC Karwar

Karwar : World Water Day has been observed at City Municipal Council Auditorium on March 22nd. Speaking on the occasion CMC President Dr. Nitin Pikle compared water to mother’s Milk which is priceless and said that value of water is also unmatched. Referring to this year’s theme of World Water Day ie; “Valuing Water” Dr. Pikle said it is very easy to say that everyone should use water without wasting. But, without people’s sincere participation it is very difficult to implement conservation of Water.
CMC has started planning to supply water in the scarce pockets of the city using local water resources. Arrangements have been made to check and test Municipal Wells for mechanical problems, cleanliness, and the presence of certain contaminants, he added.
The programme was organized under the joint auspices of the State Legal Services Authority, District Legal Services Authority, City Municipal Council and District Bar Association Karwar.
The President of District Bar Association Aniruddha Haldipurkar speaking on the occasion said that during marriages, functions and in our home we should use water very judiciously. Sometimes we waste water without knowing the value of it. Each one of us should pledge to save water, he added.
Advocate Nagaraj Nayak gave a talk on “How to Conserve Water”.
He said that Air, Light and Water are under the purview of law. He appreciated the work of CMC in planting trees in the city. Planting trees can be one tool to fight climate change – if we do it in a right way, he added.
Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of District Legal Services Authority T Govindayya speaking on the occasion said that water can not be produced artificially. In the present day of water crises we should practice to use minimum water as we can. The people of Uttara Kannada district are blessed because there is abundant forest and due to which we receive rain an there is no water scarcity. If we want to know the value of water one should travel towards North Karnataka region where there is lot of scarcity of water and we will feel value of water.
Municipal Commissioner R P Naik said that this year CMC is planning to plant 1000 Saplings and 15 lakh liter of drainage water collected from UGD will be purified and used for watering gardens and plants, he added.
Advocate Rajeshwari Naik, Standing Committee Chairperson Sandhya Baadkar, Vice President Prakash Naik, Councilors, Staff and public were present at the function.
