Savarpai Hillock is a Site Seeing Scenic spot Not suitable for Cricket Stadium

A view from Savarpai Hillock

Karwar : There has been hue and cry from the residents of Savarpai Hillok that the proposed Cricket Stadium on the Hillock will be dangerous to their lives and houses as they are situated at the right bottom of the Hillock. The politicians who are acting as agents of Karnataka State Cricket Association say that employment will be generated after stadium is constructed. Two groups of people said to be residents of Savarpai Hillock conducted Press Meets at “Varta Bhavan” Karwar, one group opposing the Cricket Stadium and another group pleading ”No Objection” for construction of the stadium.
“Mirror” has decided to make a “Ground Zero” study of this Burning Issue. When “Mirror” started climbing the Savarpai Hillock, more than 100 local residents gathered and requested for getting justice to them.
After making an assessment, “Mirror” has observed the following facts :
Savarpai Hillock is a beautiful Site Seeing Scenic Spot and not suitable for Cricket Stadium.
It is a pecuniary game of politicians to make money by bulldozing the tall and huge hillock and selling the soil and granite.
An archaeological opinion should be taken as there are many remains of Historical Fort and Cavalry Route and Tunnel.
There are more than 200 houses at the right bottom of the Hollock and no doubt they will face “Kodagu” like landslide disaster.
There is a Victory Flag Post on the top of the Hillock and custom being followed by the local residents to hoist traditional flags since King Sadashiv and Chatrapati Shivaji empire rule. Now also the tradition is continued and our National flag is also hoisted on Independence and Republic day.
